We are approaching the tenth anniversary of the attacks on September 11th, a date with profound resonance for STANY members and the Wall Street Community. This is a fitting time to reflect upon the promise we made in the days after the tragic events that “We Will Remember Them.” STANY will use this space to honor those who were lost, announce commemorative events of interest to our members and the community, and invite those within our community to participate and show their continued love and remembrance of lost colleagues, friends and family.
Tribute World Trade Center Visitors Center is Looking for Volunteers from STANY and the New York Financial Community. The 9/11 Memorial, with a planned opening in less than 130 days, is going to be one of the most visited sites in the world. With such limited and difficult access to the Memorial Plaza and a record number of tourists interested in learning about what happened on September 11th, Tribute Center volunteers will have an even more important role educating the public about what happened that day. Becoming a walking tour guide for the Tribute Center gives volunteers a sense of acknowledgment, community, affirmation and a way to heal. Tribute Center volunteer guides gain insight from one another and are invited to attend free lectures and presentations. Traders who survived and witnessed the attacks on September 11th have an important voice to add to the Tribute Center’s volunteer program. By sharing your experiences about September 11th, you could connect visitors to what happened that day in uniquely meaningful and powerful ways.
Tours last about one hour and are offered daily, throughout the day. The time commitment is flexible, one or two tours a month, plus a weekend training session. Volunteers are carefully trained and thoroughly supported during and after the training process. This would be an excellent opportunity for anyone interested in giving back to the community and could be ideal for those who are recently retired or between jobs.
